This residential tower stands in Águas Claras, a planned district of the Federal District of Brazil next to Brasília. It was built in 2010, is about 110 metres tall, and is counted among the tallest buildings in Brasília. Two slab-shaped wings are bent into a shallow V around a shared core, with pale walls and tall strips of glass.

Águas Claras is known for its tall apartment buildings, called Águas Claras Vertical, where buildings can have up to 32 floors. The district was founded in 1992 and was designed by the architect and urban planner Paulo Zimbres. Its name means 'clear waters' in Portuguese, after a stream that runs into Lake Paranoá.

A district of towers

On 16 December 1992 a district law approved Águas Claras, then part of Taguatinga. It became its own administrative region in 2003. It has about 31.5 square kilometres and a little over 135 thousand people. It grew very fast, with large and varied real-estate projects. In 2012 it was the sixth region in Brazil with the most expensive new launches.

Getting around

The Federal District Metro splits Águas Claras into two parts, with four stations: Arniqueiras, Águas Claras, Concessionárias and Estrada Parque. Buses link it to the Plano Piloto, Taguatinga and Ceilândia. Four viaducts opened on 24 January 2009 and made some streets one-way to ease traffic. Public transport is still described as not good enough.
