The Kuala Lumpur Tower, or KL Tower, is a 421-metre telecommunication tower in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It stands on Bukit Nanas, a forested hill in the middle of the city, and it is the seventh-tallest telecommunication tower in the world.

The tower's roof pod sits at about 336 metres. Inside are a revolving restaurant and a viewing deck that offer wide views of the city. The antenna on the roof adds extra height and brings the total to 421 metres. The tower is a telecommunication tower, which means it carries antennas that send broadcasts. The viewing area is open to visitors who want to enjoy the city from above.

Races and moon watching

Every year runners take part in a race up the tower's stairs to the top. The tower also serves as an Islamic observatory, called a falak observatory. Observers there look for the crescent moon that marks the beginning of the Muslim months of Ramadan, Syawal and Zulhijjah, which helps people know when to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Aidiladha. Watching for the moon in this way is a tradition tied to the Islamic calendar.
