The card describes it as a glass tower with a raked roofline. Plans began in 2015 as part of a contest to redevelop a parking lot, and the building was the first big office tower in the city since 2001. It is a mixed-use building, so people can live, work and stay in hotel rooms in the same tower. The building cost over one billion dollars once the interior was finished.
From parking lot to tower
United Properties first proposed a tower with a 300-room Hilton hotel. In June 2019 it changed the plan to a Four Seasons hotel plus condos. Ground was ceremonially broken on 19 June 2019.
The building was designed by Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates, and built by the Minneapolis firm McGough Construction. It was completed in 2022. It started as an entry in a public competition to redevelop a surface parking lot in downtown Minneapolis.
Cost and size
Wikipedia says construction cost topped 650 million dollars, and with interior finishes the total went above 1 billion dollars. In 2023 an investment firm bought the 16 office floors for 225 million dollars.
The tower was finished in 2022 and is 519 feet, about 158 m, tall. Construction started in 2019. The condos and hotel were not part of that sale.
