Quick answers

Where is Shanghai IFC?

Shanghai IFC is in Lujiazui, Shanghai, China.

When was Shanghai IFC built?

Shanghai IFC was built in 2010.

How tall is Shanghai IFC?

Shanghai IFC is about 260 m tall.

Shanghai IFC, short for Shanghai International Finance Center, is a group of buildings in Lujiazui, the business district of Pudong in Shanghai, China. It has two towers: the north tower is about 260 metres and the south tower about 250 metres tall. A shopping mall called IFC sits at their feet.

The south tower was finished in 2009 and the north tower and the rest in 2010. The complex is across the road from the Oriental Pearl Tower. The designer was the architect Cesar Pelli. Don't mix it up with the much taller Shanghai World Financial Center, a different building about a block away.

Who is inside?

The south tower holds the Ritz-Carlton hotel, and the north tower is the Shanghai headquarters of HSBC bank in China. There is also an Apple Store under the sunken forecourt, topped by a cylindrical glass skylight rising from the ground. A multi-screen cinema, a supermarket and many restaurants fill the mall. Metro Line 2 runs directly beneath through Lujiazui station.

The bronze lions

In front of the north tower stands a pair of bronze lions. This continues a tradition from the old HSBC building on the Bund, across the Huangpu River. The lions at IFC are the fourth pair of copies of the original lions. The originals are now kept in museum rooms in Lujiazui and are not outside. The IFC's lions were cast from copies in front of HSBC's headquarters in Hong Kong.
