Two coral-pink towers joined high above a giant arch by the Bridge Suite, the signature of the huge Atlantis resort on Paradise Island.

The resort has several hotel towers, including The Royal, Coral, Cove and Reef Towers. The Royal is the one that makes the postcard view: two coral-pink towers joined high up by an arch-shaped building called the Bridge Suite, according to the card on this globe. Since 2014 it has been part of Marriott International's Autograph Collection, so guests can earn Marriott Bonvoy points.

Where did the name come from?

The design is based on the legend of Atlantis, a lost city that the ancient Greek philosopher Plato wrote about. You can see it in the ceiling murals in the entrance hall and in a bar named Plato's. There are also glass sculptures by the American artist Dale Chihuly in the casino, and indoor waterfalls and fountains near the foyer.

A short history

The site first opened as the Paradise Island Hotel and Casino in 1968. In 1994 South African hotelier Sol Kerzner bought it and rebuilt it as Atlantis, and the Royal Towers officially opened on 11 December 1998. Two big expansions followed in 2007: The Cove, with 600 suites, and The Reef. Brookfield Asset Management owns it today, and The Royal was renovated in 2024.

The marine habitat and waterpark

Atlantis is built around Aquaventure, a waterpark with many slides, river rides and pools and about five miles of white sand beaches. The resort also has what it says is the largest open-air marine habitat in the world, home to more than 65,000 sea animals from about 250 species, including dolphins, sharks, sawfish and stingrays. Dolphin Cay is a marine conservation and education centre. The resort has five hotels, more than 20 restaurants, a marina and a golf course. Since 2005 it has supported ocean conservation through the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation.
