Quick answers

Where is Milad Tower?

Milad Tower is in Iran.

How tall is Milad Tower?

Milad Tower is about 435 m tall.

The Milad Tower is a tall tower in Tehran, the capital of Iran. It stands 435 m from the base to the tip of the antenna, which makes it the tallest tower in Iran and about the 24th-tallest free-standing structure in the world. Its name means 'Birth Tower' in Persian.

The top part is a large pod with 12 floors, and its roof is at 315 m. The tower belongs to the International Trade and Convention Center of Tehran, which also has a hotel, a convention centre, a world trade centre and an IT park. It is also the regular host of the Fajr International Film Festival, Iran's best-known film festival.

How it was built

The tower was part of a huge planned district for Tehran from the 1970s, but only the tower was ever built. Construction began in 1997 and took more than ten years. The first eight years brought only 40 percent of the work, and the other 60 percent was built in about 30 months. It was finished in 2007 and officially opened on 7 October 2008.

Inside the top

The large pod at the top has 12 floors. Sources describe an amphitheatre, a concert hall and a revolving restaurant on the highest levels, and the tower also carries broadcasting equipment. It has become one of Tehran's best-known symbols. The tower's name changed during construction: in 2001 it was renamed Milad Tower, on the occasion of a 100th-birthday anniversary of the founder of the Islamic Republic.
