Quick answers
Where is BD Bacatá?
BD Bacatá is in Bogotá, Colombia.
How tall is BD Bacatá?
BD Bacatá is about 216 m tall.
BD Bacatá is a building complex in Bogotá, Colombia. It includes the tallest building in the country, a south tower with 67 floors, and it is the sixth tallest in South America. The complex is meant to hold offices, shops, apartments, and a 364-room hotel. It replaced an older building, the Hotel Bacatá.
BD Bacatá is known as the first crowdfunded skyscraper. That means it was paid for by many private people buying shares and other financial rights, which Colombian law allows. The name Bacatá honors the Indigenous name of the area before Bogotá. The project has had problems, though: the main investor stopped paying the builder and the work was left unfinished.
What does crowdfunded mean?
Crowdfunding means a project gets its money from many people, each giving a small part, instead of one big bank or company. For BD Bacatá, people bought shares and fiduciary rights, which are a kind of ownership in a trust. This let thousands of small investors help finance a skyscraper. It was an unusual way to build a tall tower, and it made the project famous.
Is it finished?
Not completely. The Spanish main investor stopped sending money to the contractor, Prabyc Ingenieros, and the works stayed unfinished. In late 2024 the company Total Co took over the recovery plan, intending to finish the unfinished floors of the South Tower and renovate apartments as sales allow. By early 2026 it reported that about 30 percent of the work was still to be done. A debt of 133 billion Colombian pesos has been recorded.
