When was Jeddah Corniche Circuit (Saudi Arabian Grand Prix) built?
Jeddah Corniche Circuit (Saudi Arabian Grand Prix) was built in 2021.
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is a street race track in Jeddah, a port city on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast. It runs along the Jeddah Corniche, the waterfront road beside the sea, and has been the home of the Formula One Saudi Arabian Grand Prix since 2021. The Red Sea lies right beside the track.
The track is 6.174 kilometres long with 27 corners, and the race is held at night under bright lights. It is known as the fastest street circuit in Formula One, where drivers sweep past the waterfront at very high speed. It also hosts Formula E and other racing series.
How did the circuit begin?
The circuit was designed by Carsten Tilke, the son of the famous track designer Hermann Tilke. It held its first Formula One race, the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, on 5 December 2021, as the second-to-last race of that season.
Later the circuit also hosted other events, including a World Touring Car Cup finale in 2022 on a shorter 3.450 km layout, and Formula E races from 2025 on a track of about 3 km.
Why is it so fast?
At 6.174 kilometres, it is the third-longest track on the Formula One calendar, after Spa-Francorchamps and Las Vegas. It has three DRS zones in a row, where drivers can open a flap on the rear wing to go faster.
The pole position lap in 2025 set a record average speed of 254.6 km/h, which is the quickest ever on a street course.
