Why is it in Cleveland?

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was started in 1983, and it began honoring artists in 1986 without a permanent home. Several cities, including Memphis, Detroit and New York, were considered. Cleveland won partly because its leaders promised about 65 million dollars of public money and because a Cleveland radio host, Alan Freed, is credited with popularizing the term "rock and roll". Freed was also in the first group of people honored.

How was the building designed?

He first planned the tower to be about 61 meters tall, but the nearby Burke Lakefront Airport forced him to lower it to about 49 meters. Work began with a ground-breaking ceremony on June 7, 1993, and the museum was dedicated two years later.
