U.S. Bank Tower is a skyscraper in the Financial District of downtown Los Angeles, California. It is 310 metres tall and has 73 floors, with a round shape and a glowing glass crown on top. It was built from 1987 to 1989 and designed by Henry N. Cobb of Pei Cobb Freed and Partners.

For years it was the tallest building in Los Angeles, and today it is the second tallest in the city and the third tallest in California. It is one of the most recognisable buildings in the city, and it often appears in establishing shots of Los Angeles in films and television.

Library Tower

The building was first known as the Library Tower. After two terrible fires at the Los Angeles Central Library in 1986, the city sold the right to build upward, called air rights, to the tower's developers to help pay for rebuilding the library across the street. Later it was named First Interstate Bank World Center, and the Library Tower name came back after a merger with Wells Fargo. In 2003 it became U.S. Bank Tower. It cost 350 million dollars to build.

Owners and movies

The tower has had several owners: the Singapore-listed company OUE bought it in 2013 and Silverstein Properties, the developer of the World Trade Center, bought it in 2020. A new lobby and more food options opened in 2023. In the 1996 film Independence Day, aliens destroy the building.
