How tall is China Resources Headquarters ("Spring Bamboo")?

China Resources Headquarters ("Spring Bamboo") is about 392.5 m tall.

China Resources Tower is a skyscraper in the Houhai area of Nanshan district, in Shenzhen, China. It is 392.5 metres tall, which makes it a supertall building, the word for towers above 300 metres. People often call it the Spring Bamboo, because it looks like a new bamboo shoot pushing up from the ground.

It is the headquarters of China Resources, the company that owns it. Building started in 2012, the tower reached its full height in July 2016, and it was finished in 2018. When it opened it was the third tallest building in Shenzhen, passing Shun Hing Square. A shopping mall and metro stations lie at its foot, so many people pass it every day.

Why is it called the Spring Bamboo?

The tower is round, and slim columns wrap around it. The card on the globe counts 56 of them, and they gather toward a pointed top. Together they look like the tight leaves of a young bamboo shoot, and in Chinese a bamboo shoot in spring is called chunsun. That is where the nickname comes from. The American firm Kohn Pedersen Fox designed it.

What is around it today?

At the foot of the tower is a shopping mall called Shenzhen Bay MixC, with car parks underneath. Underground train lines connect the mall to the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre and to Houhai station on Metro Line 11. As of 2025 the tower is the fourth tallest in Shenzhen, because a taller building, the China Merchants Bank Tower, has been finished nearby since then.
