The Golden Bridge, called Cầu Vàng in Vietnamese, is a 150-metre-long footbridge in the Bà Nà Hills resort, in the Hòa Vang district west of Da Nang, Vietnam. Its golden walkway seems to rest in the palms of two enormous stone hands rising from the hillside. The hands are not stone at all: they are made of fibreglass and wire mesh and shaped to look like old, weathered rock.

Quick answers

Where is Golden Bridge, Ba Na Hills?

Golden Bridge, Ba Na Hills is in Ba Na Hills, Da Nang, Vietnam.

When was Golden Bridge, Ba Na Hills built?

Golden Bridge, Ba Na Hills was built in 2018.

A golden footbridge that appears to be held up by two giant stone hands high in the hills.

The bridge was built to link a cable car station with the gardens and to give visitors a scenic lookout without a steep climb. It loops nearly back around on itself. The client was Sun Group, and the bridge opened in June 2018. It sits about 1,400 metres above sea level, so on foggy mornings the hands can seem to hold a path in the clouds.

Who designed it

The bridge was designed by TA Landscape Architecture, a firm based in Ho Chi Minh City that works with the city's university of architecture. Its founder Vu Viet Anh was the main designer. Tran Quang Hung was the bridge designer and Nguyen Quang Huu Tuan was design manager. Building began in July 2017 and was finished in April 2018, before the opening two months later.

The hill station

Bà Nà Hills is a hill station in the Trường Sơn Mountains, about 42 km from Da Nang. French colonists founded it in 1919 and it was later expanded by Sun Group. The name comes from the Cham language, because the hills were once a place to worship the Champa goddess Po Inu Nagar. Because it is high up, it is cooler than the coast.

Getting there

Visitors ride the Ba Na cable car, which opened on 29 March 2013. At 5,801 metres it holds the world record for the longest non-stop single-track cable car. A sixth cable car by Doppelmayr was added in 2021. The nearby Linh Ung Temple is another stop for many visitors.
