Iconsiam is a large mixed-use complex on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand. Its shopping mall opened on 9 November 2018, and it also includes hotels and residences. The project cost about 54 billion baht, or about 1.5 billion US dollars, and was developed together by Siam Piwat, MQDC and Charoen Pokphand Group.

The complex includes the tallest building in Thailand, the 70-floor Magnolia Waterfront Residences, which is 318 metres high. It also has the country's sixth-tallest building, the 52-floor, 272-metre Mandarin Oriental Residences. The mall faces the river with a layered glass front, and its total retail area is about 525,000 square metres.

Inside the mall

The main building has a Siam Takashimaya department store and an Apple Store, and a 3,000-seat auditorium and exhibition hall. It also houses the Iconsiam Heritage Museum, also called River Museum Bangkok, a joint project with the Fine Arts Department of Thailand's Ministry of Culture. A second building, called the ICS Building, adds more mall space and the 244-room Millennium Hilton Bangkok hotel.

The two residential towers

The Magnolia Waterfront Residences has 300 units on 70 floors, while the Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, has 146 units on 52 floors. The model's description says both towers have golden wing-like decoration near their tops. Along the river there is also a park of more than 10,000 square metres and a riverside walkway for visitors to use.

Getting there by water and rail

Iconsiam sits next to Charoen Nakhon station on the Gold Line, which opened on 16 December 2020. It also works with Chulalongkorn University, the Marine Department and the city to upgrade four river piers, and it has four piers of its own for private boats and public ferries. Visitors can take a ferry provided by Iconsiam from places such as Sathorn Pier. The project won design awards including Best Design of the Year at the World Retail Awards 2019.
