Baiyoke Tower II was built in 1997.
How tall is Baiyoke Tower II?
Baiyoke Tower II is about 304 m tall.
Baiyoke Tower II is a hotel skyscraper in the Ratchathewi district of Bangkok, Thailand. Its main roof is about 304 to 309 metres high, and with the antenna added it reaches roughly 328 metres. It was finished in 1997.
For almost twenty years it was the tallest building in Thailand, until taller towers such as MahaNakhon joined the city skyline. It is still the tallest hotel in Southeast Asia. The cream-coloured shaft has stepped corners and golden touches, and it ends in a round crown. Sources give slightly different heights and floor counts, between 85 and 88 floors, depending on whether the roof, the antenna and the top levels are included.
What can visitors do there?
The tower is home to the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, which offers 673 guest rooms. There is a public observatory on the 77th floor and a bar on the 83rd. The top attraction is a roof deck on the 84th floor that turns slowly through a full 360 degrees, so guests can see all of Bangkok without moving their feet. Visitors take a lift up and look out over the city from high above.
Why is it famous?
When it was finished in 1997 it stood far above everything else in Thai cities, and the antenna was added two years later for broadcasting. Until the 2010s it held the title of Thailand's tallest building. Analogue television signals were sent from the tower until 2018, when they were switched off. Today it is remembered as the building that proved Bangkok could build supertall towers.
