Quick answers

Where is Indian Institute of Technology Bombay?

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is in Powai, Mumbai, India.

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, or IIT Bombay, is a public university for science and engineering in Powai, Mumbai, India. It is one of 23 Indian Institutes of Technology and was the second one to be founded, in 1958.

Its creation was supported by UNESCO, and the Soviet Union provided funding. The campus covers about 545 acres between two lakes, Powai and Vihar. In 2018 the government named it an Institution of Eminence. Students are admitted through a hard entrance exam called JEE Advanced. The institute has 17 academic departments, and it is reported to be a top choice for the highest-scoring students on the entrance exam.

From Worli to Powai

The first 100 students began in 1958 in a temporary building in Worli, because the Powai campus was still being built. They graduated in 1962.

Powai land was given by the government of Bombay State. Today the campus has 17 academic departments, 35 additional centres and three schools. It was set up as a Centre of Excellence for India's training, research and development in science, engineering and technology.

Life on campus

The campus lies between Powai Lake and Vihar Lake and next to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, so it has a lot of greenery. Students live in 21 hostels.

The card says the model shows the Main Building, known for its deep concrete sun-fins and scalloped roofline. The campus is also about 15 km from Mumbai's international airport. Its closeness to the national park has given it plenty of greenery.
